In a door-to-door scam, the scammer knocks on your door and usually offers a product or service, but their main objective is to steal from you. They will normally do this by making you pay for something that is not real or distracting you while their accomplice steals from your house.

Tips on how to prevent falling into these scams
Do not open your door immediately.
You should never open door immediately for someone that you don't know. You should look out the peep hole to see who they are before you open the door.
Always ask for their identification.
Many door-to-door salesmen who actually work for a company will have some sort of identification with them. Do not be tricked by
their appearance such as corporate uniform they wear.
Keep your information private.
You should not give out your information to anyone who comes knocking on your door because you do not know what they will do with it. Do not talk to these strangers if you are alone.
Do not let door-to-door people into your house.
It is very dangerous for you to let in any strangers.You should only let those people who you know into your house.
Report suspicious door-to-door people to the police.
If they do not want to leave you alone then you should just call the police.

Home Inspection Scams
Residents of Compassvale Link have been approached by a couple, who went from door to door, claiming to be from the town council. They claimed that they were supposed to check on sofa insurance and residents were asked to pay a fee for the sofa checks.

Scam artists posing as charity fund-raisers going door to door to collect donations.
